I have always liked decorating my space with things that I make myself. It allows me to say “this is my own space”, and express myself. The down side for some is that everything is mismatched because I go with what I am feeling that particular moment. I found this idea on Pinterest to make a terrarium and it is a simple way to decorate your home especially if you like plants and I did not have to spend a lot of money to do this. I can imagine that depending on where you are, you can getaway without spending a dime.
Here is what you will need:
A clear glass vase / container
Succulent plants
Stones/Gravel (this is important as it helps with drainage)
Sand
Some shells(optional)
What you simply do is layer the materials starting with the stones or gravel. Then next comes the sand and then the charcoal pieces(not pictured) then you add the potting soil and add the plant making sure you cover the roots. With the first one I added some more sand at the top, stones and a shell I found at the beach. With the other one I added pearl beads at the bottom that I found at the dollar store. I just love Bermuda sand, its pink!
Here is the top view, next time I go to the beach I will be on the lookout for more shells.
This will be a fun project to do with the kids they can pick the stones and help you layer it. Remember to put your terarrium where it will get some sun for at least 5 hours a day, and remember not to over-water.

Really interesting. Would want to keep track though so would love it if you can give us follow up pics. Was just wondering, wont the potting soil seep through to the gravel at the bottom and if it does, will it still look as nice.
You water just a little every 4 or 5 days so soil will not seep down. Will definitely post an update. I will try to post it here but most likely on my Facebook and Instagram. SO follow me there too.
