Whenever people ask me what I do, depending on the mood I will say housewife, blogger or author. I am all these things and more and I love it!
When I was in high school, I was in the sciences class. In the third year of high school we were placed in different classes depending on how we did in our second year. You either majored in sciences, arts or commercial subjects respective of your grades. It did not matter what career choice you had in mind, we were just told this is where you are going to be. At that age, all I cared about was that I got in the sciences class. Never mind that I did not know what I would like to do with my life at that point!
Oh, but I knew! I knew that I wanted to be many things at once. My heart was not set one particular job or career. I knew I wanted my life to be interesting and fun. Something different and something new everyday. I have always known that I want to create things and to write about different things.
When I was in my second year in high school I started a scrapbook, it had stuff about me, celebrity pictures from magazines and short stories. I loved writing short stories. It made me happy. Then that idea evolved into me wanting to set up a youth centre which I worked towards for about a year but I was not confident about, so that dream died.
I also joined a writers’ association, I am not sure if it is still around. This was a lot of fun; we did a few events. This was before I went to university.
When I was in university a lot of things changed about me. I think at some point my heart was set on a career in software development because it was what everyone around me was working towards.
Moving to Bermuda put me back on the path I believe God meant for me. My first year there I was looking for a job that never came and then I started this blog. At that moment, I just needed something to look forward to in the morning and then I grew to enjoy it. The best part has been to allow myself to be me. I write about the things I want to write about and pursue projects that I want to. It’s still a lot of work, but work that I enjoy thoroughly. I can move seamlessly from gardening to children’s books.
I am sure I sound and look crazy doing different things at the same time but the truth is I love doing it all. When I wake up in the morning I feel energised to do whatever I have decided to do on that day.
Do I think this is ideal for everyone? Certainly, not!
My path is not the same as yours. Some people are meant to be entrepreneurs while other people are happy to work for someone else. Some people will figure out their lives at 21 and buy a house by 25 while others will only figure it out at 60. Whatever your path enjoy it and own it, it’s yours! Find the thing(s) that make you happy. If you get the opportunity to do so, create a life that you want!
