How to dry flowers

Dried flowers

I like growing things for many reasons but mostly because flowers are pretty! It makes me happy to look at pretty flowers in full bloom. This year my container garden has done very well and even better Leo is involved too.

Earlier in the spring I had these viola’s which were just gorgeous! I especially loved the yellow ones. When I planted them it was just for their looks and I had completely forgotten that they are edible. Someone reminded me when I posted on instagram, it was then I actually realised that Bermuda never has edible flowers for sale. I suppose its just not popular here to eat flowers. Leo found them “spicy”, code for he didn’t like them!

Before it got too hot for violas I decided to dry the flowers by pressing them. That way I can enjoy the flowers well after the plant is gone. This is how I did it.

Time needed: 12 days

How to dry flowers

  1. Harvest the flowers and leaves

  2. Place flowers to dry in a book.

Place flowers between two sheets of parchment paper and put in the middle of a heavy book. Close the book and store in a safe place for about 10 days.

  3. Remove the flowers from the book.

Carefully open the book and remove the top parchment sheet.

  4. Use the flowers as desired.

Use the dried flowers as desired. You can use them to make a picture, a bookmarker, in scrub or with resin. I stuck mine to the canvas. Dried flowers
