The day before yesterday I came across a tutorial on how to do applique on the Craft Passion website. So I am on my path to learn this technique. I decided to do one for a friend who is going to have her first child. This is what I came up with.
Firstly I drew the word “dangwe” (shona for first born) and cut out the letters.
Then I traced ( important to remember to reverse the letters when tracing them!) it back to fusible web, however the one i found does not not have the paper backing, such a bummer. Hopefully for my next try I will have it.
After cutting roughly around the web I ironed it onto the the scraps of fabric.
I cut around the letters and used the fray check to stop the fabric from fraying.
Since the fusible web I used was not the correct one I could not iron it onto the shirt. I used running stitch to attach to the shirt. Here is a close-up of the finished garment.
A bit rough around the edges but fingers crossed the next time I do this I will have a sewing machine I think it will come out even better. What do you think of my first applique effort? Let me know what you think?
