A couple of weeks ago I bought some nyii. Nyii are wild fruits that are sweet, almost like raisins. They are out of season right now so what you will find right now is mostly dry.
I only managed to eat a few before I decided to soak them in water. Initially the plan was to soak them to eat them later.
After a few hours, I decided to add more water to make a drink with the nyii.
The result was that the water now tasted like nyii, which you can actually drink. The good thing, is that the fruit is sweet enough that you do not need to add any sweetener to it. I do think that if you let the fruit sit in water for a long time you might end up with an alcoholic drink.
I wanted a little fizz so I mixed the nyii drink with some ginger beer. The ginger added a bite to it.
Nyii punch
Ingredients
- 1 cup nyii
- 1 cup ginger beer
Instructions

Soak nyii in 2 cups water overnight. Pour the water from the nyii into a pitcher. Add the ginger beer into the pitcher and stir.

Serve cold over ice.
