When I was in Zimbabwe I had the opportunity to try E-foods products. I used their premade bbq sauce in these meatballs.
I also got their other products like soy sauce, sauce and that you can use in your everyday cooking. I made my own bbq sauce with tsubvu and sauces and vinegar from E-foods. Tsubvu adds a smokiness to the flavour that is distinct. I made the sauce rather thick because that is the way I like it.
It is simple and you can make it ahead of time or if you want you can can the sauce and store it for a long time.
Tsubvu BBQ Sauce
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of red onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup Mr Sauce Brown vinegar
- 1 /4 cup tsubvu puree
- 1/4 cup Mr Sauce Worcester Sauce
- 1/4 cup Mr Sauce tomato sauce
Method
- Heat a large saute pan to medium-high heat, add olive oil and red onion.
- Saute for 2-3 minutes until onions are translucent, add garlic cloves. Stir and saute for 30 seconds.
- Next add in Worcester sauce, tomato sauce, brown sugar and brown vinegar. Stir until brown sugar is dissolved.
- Add in tsubvu puree, stir and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stirring on occasion.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
